First, What Is WRITE?
The University of Washington School of Medicine designed the WRITE program to enhance the training of students interested in practicing rural medicine. Students applying for this special clerkship must come highly recommended, demonstrating outstanding academic excellence and a passion for practicing primary care medicine in a rural setting. If selected, the University allows the student to spend the second half of their third-year of medical school at a WRITE site. Palouse Medical is one of 6 WRITE sites in Eastern Washington.
Meet Our WRITE Student!
Student Physician Hatlen comes with outstanding recommendations from professors and previous training sites. Having grown up in neighboring Spokane, Washington, she is no stranger to the Palouse! Receiving her undergrad from the University of Washington, she was accepted into their School of Medicine, and is currently in her third year. Student Physician Hatlen is looking forward to providing the best care possible and learning as much as she can during her 5 month stay. While Palouse Medical will serve as her primary site, she will receive additional training opportunities with preceptors and specialists from Palouse Surgeons, Palouse Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, Palouse Pediatrics, and Pullman Regional Hospital. We can’t wait to introduce her to you and your family!
Our Promise To Patients
We consider it a great honor to be selected as an educational site to help train the future of medicine. We hope that you will find students to be helpful and serve as an asset during your medical care. We are happy to answer questions and want you to rest assured knowing that students will always be closely supervised by a physician.
